Common bean is the world's first most important pulse crop. It acts as a great source of proteins, fibre, carbohydrates, minerals (Fe and Zn), and essential vitamins (such as biotin, vitamin A) which make it a potential staple food to overcome the problem of hunger. Current common bean breeding programs are primary directed towards high yield, biotic and abiotic stress resilience that has increased global production, but less attention has been directed toward improving micronutrient concentrations in seeds.
