Beschreibung

Livestock sector in the country has been contributing handsomely to the backbone of the economy with significant proportions of produces and being leading contributors in the sectors like milk and meat. Livestock is an integral part of not only India's agriculture but also the life system and cultures in different parts of the country. In Assam, the cattle population constitutes the largest group, numbering 10.36 million where 9.67 million is local and 0.69 million is cross bred followed by the goat population 4.37 million, pig 2.13 million and the buffalo population is 0.52 million. In the state of Assam again different agro-climatic conditions have given rise to different livestock rearing patterns. Further, it is far more different in the border areas. The present book was conducted in Kamarpara, Kukurmara and Mankachar, which are situated in the Indo Bangladesh International Border Areas out of the total of fifteen such villages in Dhubri District, Assam. Thirty six farmers having at least one yielding cattle/buffalo in those selected villages were selected randomly from each of the villages making the sample size of 108.
